Changes to USPS Regulations for Slim Jims & Digests
WASHINGTON, DC – The USPS has released a reminder regarding the upcoming changes to the United States Postal Service® (USPS) regulations for letter size booklet type mailings, sometimes referred to in the printing industry as “slim-jims” or “digests”.
These new regulations go into effect on September 8, 2009. The new requirements call for a reduction in the length allowed for these pieces, the addition of a third tab to hold the piece closed, and increased paper weight minimums for the covers of these pieces. Pieces not meeting these new requirements as of September 8, 2009 will be subject to additional postage. These changes are in response to USPS reports that these booklet type pieces were incurring damage during the mail sortation process, and that they were causing jams in the USPS sorting equipment.
