Freedom celebrated 40 years of direct mail service excellence onFreedom 40th anniversary logo September 23 by unveiling a new 87,000-square-foot mailing center on its Aurora, IL campus.

USPS Deputy Postmaster General Doug Tulino joined President and Chief Operating Officer Eric Blohm and Freedom’s leadership team to tour the facility and participate in a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

The new mailing center represents Freedom’s continued commitment to building for the future of direct mail. The facility strengthens Freedom’s ability to help clients control postage costs, support increasingly sophisticated mail programs, and adapt to evolving USPS requirements.

In 2025, Freedom mailed nearly 1.5 billion pieces of mail and saved clients more than $52 million in postage costs through postal optimization strategies.

In 2024, Printing Impressions recognized Freedom’s investments in both technology and people with its Innovator of the Year award.

Freedom: 40 Years of Innovation

Freedom began operations in 1986 in a 13,000-square-foot print facility located in a refurbished automobile dealership in Milton, WI. Initially focused on business forms, Freedom co-founder and CEO Marty Liebert and his team eventually shifted their attention to direct mail.

Over the next four decades, Freedom built an integrated direct mail supply chain. Investments in printing, finishing, lettershop, postal optimization, and mailing technologies helped improve mail performance, efficiency, and postage savings for clients.

Key milestones include:

  • Inkjet personalization, Milton facility, 1992
  • In-house commingling and postal optimization services, Aurora facility, 2004
  • 100% variable high-speed digital press, Milton, 2011
  • HITRUST CSF Certification for healthcare and HIPAA data security, 2017
  • EcoVadis Silver Rating for corporate sustainability and responsibility, 2018

Technology investments are only part of Freedom’s innovation story. The company also invests heavily in employee development and education. Earlier this year, Printing Impressions highlighted Freedom’s commitment to building expertise throughout its workforce through training and education.

That combination of advanced technology and experienced personnel has enabled Freedom to develop strategic drop-shipping, proprietary commingling capabilities, and optimized use of USPS promotions. Together, those capabilities help clients achieve industry-leading postage costs and in-home delivery performance.

Freedom President & COO Eric Blohm speaking at the ribbon cutting

“Over the past four decades, Freedom has experienced tremendous change,” Blohm told employees gathered for the anniversary celebration. “We’ve navigated economic ups and downs, embraced new technologies, adapted to customers’ changing needs, and overcome many challenges through the years.”

“Yet, through every challenge and every opportunity, one thing remains constant: our people. That is at the heart of what has made Freedom so successful. People make Freedom what it is today.”

Freedom continues to align its mailing operations with a USPS network increasingly focused on automation, transportation efficiency, and modernized logistics.

Mailing Facility Designed to Align with an Evolving USPS Network

Freedom's new mailing center, September 2026The new mailing center expands Freedom’s Aurora campus from 226,222 square feet to 313,222 square feet, creating one of the largest direct mail production operations in the market.

The facility increases production capacity while helping reduce energy consumption and fossil fuel use. Its sustainable design [PDF, 602.16 KB] reflects the company’s commitment to environmental stewardship.

As USPS modernizes its national processing and distribution network, Freedom is modernizing the way client mail enters it. The new mailing center is a major step forward in that effort.

The facility was designed to support system-directed automation in a modernized USPS processing environment. Its flexible layout increases opportunities for commingling and strategic drop shipping.

As a result, clients can benefit from lower postage costs, greater operational flexibility, and additional postal efficiencies. It also helps position their mail programs for future USPS network changes.
